About Us
Sibani Mandal Mahavidyalaya, also known as Namkhana College, is a Government aided undergraduate institution established in 2013 in Namkhana, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. Affiliated with the University of Calcutta, it offers Honours courses in Bengali, Geography, History, Sanskrit, Political Science, and Education, as well as general undergraduate programs in English, Zoology, Botany, and Chemistry.
Focus & Mission
The college’s core mission is to uplift the rural, economically disadvantaged population of Namkhana—especially SC/ST/OBC and women—by providing inclusive, quality higher education. Its stated goals include:
- Empowering local youth through student-centred and skill-based learning
- Promoting holistic growth via academics, NSS, cultural events, and sports
- Building awareness around social issues—gender equality, environmental responsibility, communal harmony, nationalism—through seminars and campaigns
- Facilitating socio-economic transformation by enabling first-generation learners and marginalized groups to pursue higher education
Impact & Community Role
Prior to its inception, students in Namkhana had to travel considerable distances—including ferry rides—to nearby colleges. The college’s establishment dramatically improved access to higher education in the coastal island region. It also organizes NSS relief and awareness programs during cyclones like Amphan (2020) and Yaas (2021), demonstrating active community engagement).
Infrastructure & Student Life
Spanning around 5 acres along the national highway, the campus features laboratories, a well-stocked library, spacious classrooms, and facilities for sports, cultural, and NCC/NSS activities. With about 834 students enrolled across diverse streams, the college continues to grow as a promising educational hub.
In Short
In short, Sibani Mandal Mahavidyalaya plays a crucial role in Namkhana’s educational landscape by fostering rural upliftment, empowering marginalized groups, and building a culture of holistic learning and community service.
