The Department of Bengali of Sibani Mandal Mahavidyalaya is a government-aided college located in the Sundarbans region of South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, near the Bay of Bengal. It is approved by the University of Calcutta. The department offers instruction to students enrolled in both the B.A. Major (Honours) and MDC (General) courses.

The department accommodates 100 students per semester for the Major course and approximately 400 students for the MDC course. Most of the students belong to the Bengali language and literature stream. Many of these students are residents of islands such as Namkhana, Moushuni, Ghoramara, Patharpratima G Plot, L Plot, I Plot, and Rakshashkhali. Despite geographical, natural, and economic challenges, they pursue their studies diligently.

The department has earned a distinguished reputation due to the cordial relationship between faculty and students and rigorous academic efforts. Every year, around 10 students secure admission to prestigious universities such as Calcutta University, Jadavpur University, Rabindra Bharati University, Diamond Harbour Women’s University, and others.
